The 29th Eurojazz Festival will take place in Mexico from March 1st to 15th. Initiated by the Ministry of Culture of Mexico with the support of the European Union, the festival is a major cultural event that brings together national and international musical ensembles. This year's program will feature musicians from Austria, Spain, Finland, France, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, and Mexico. The festival will be held on two stages, «Contratiempo» and «Swing», at the National Center of the Arts (Cenart) in Mexico City, and will also extend to Pachuca, Hidalgo, and León, Guanajuato. The program includes 21 concerts, as well as film screenings, gastronomic exhibitions, masterclasses, and other activities. Special attention will be paid to the issue of gender-based violence, marked by the participation of Cuban poet Odette Alonso and the presentation of Kelly Martínez-Grandal's book «Ritual para nacer dos veces».
The festival will open on March 1st. On the «Swing» stage at 3:00 PM, the Austrian ensemble Candlelight Ficus will perform, followed by the Mexican band Troker from Jalisco at 6:30 PM. On the same day, the «Contratiempo» stage will host the Alejandro Campos Jazz Quartet at 1:00 PM and Las Billies at 5:00 PM. On March 7th at 6:00 PM, Isaí Moreno will present his book «No son tantas las estrellas» at the Salón Manuel Tolsá, and at 5:00 PM, the jazz group Jazzid will perform on the «Contratiempo» stage.
The festival's program also features European musicians: on March 8th, the Spanish pianist Marta Sánchez will perform at 1:00 PM on the «Swing» stage, followed by the Dutch singer Raquel Kurpershoek at 4:00 PM and the Polish Hania Derej Trio at 7:00 PM. On March 14th, the Finnish flautist and saxophonist Punk Anderson will take the stage at 3:00 PM, followed by the Italian band CapYcua at 6:30 PM. On March 15th, at 3:00 PM, the Hungarian Klára Hadju Quartet will present their new album «Nostalgia», and at 6:30 PM, the London-based folk fusion ensemble Topol’ana from Slovakia will perform.
